| We're
having a heat wave ... a tropical
heat wave ... |
If
you live in a home where there
is no air conditioning
like I do and it gets really hot, we
rabbits can get dangerously overheated. I
mean ... well, you know, we have
to wear these fur coats
all the time.
Some
of the things you can do to help us
out if
you see we're getting overheated (breathing
heavily, lethargic, miserable) is to
wrap a
bottle of frozen water in a towel (paper or
otherwise) and put it near us. It
will cool the air around us. A
cool damp washrag or paper
towel on our backs or around our necks will
help also. An ice cube or two
in our water
dish will give us nice cool drinks of water.
A
word of caution: Please don't
overdo it and freeze us. Don't
pack us in ice or throw us in
a bathtub with cold water. You
can put
us in shock that way.
Because
heat is so dangerous to rabbits, here
are some links to pages on the House
Rabbit Society's web site that contain
helpful information.
